Taken around midnight a few days ago at Le Petit Oiseau (Little Bird Bistro, sister restaurant to Le Pigeon) in downtown Portland. Summer is quickly dwindling and I hope many of you have managed to fit in some relaxing days. It’s awfully hot in the summer where I live…so last week I decided to head north, or more correctly, northwest, for a few days where the ocean breeze beckons….Hoping you’re all well. I’ll try to stop by in the next few days.
Technical note: Shot at ISO 3200 and f/1.2. Even though the Mark III can handle lowlight interiors such as the one above quite well, I seldom push the ISO higher than ISO 2000. This is mainly self discipline on my part. The noise of RAW files produced by the Mark III at ISO 3200 is minimal. As a matter of fact, I can push it even higher past ISO 6400 if necessary. The Scene: A couple was sitting at this table minutes before and I really wanted to take the shot with them in it. Even though the camera was set to silent shooting mode, I refrained from taking the shot not wanting to freak them out, much less disturb the mood. In instances like this, a mirrorless camera such as the Fujifilm X-Pro 1, would have been perfectly suited for the task.
