– Lord Byron.
I visited the beautiful Awosting Falls early in my photography life. I had heard about the waterfall totally by accident and, on a whim, decided to visit the Minnewaska State Park Preserve near Poughkeepsie, NY. I decided to take a drive up following a scenic route that hugged the coastline of the Hudson River, and it was beyond scenic. At the time, I was a bit of a newbie, and the waterfall overwhelmed me. It was way beautiful, a setting that I was expecting, plus I hadn’t budgeted enough time, so a lot of the exploration was limited to the fall itself. I got a couple of good shots of the waterfall itself but did not take the time out to truly explore the compositions.
On my drive back, I made a mental note to come back, perhaps during a beautiful fall day. Unfortunately, that dream was not to be. It affected me as a photographer quite a bit and started a phase where I was determined to get every single photo possible at any location we visited. After a while, I was able to calm down and overcome my fear of missing out. I still harbor a hope to return to this beautiful park on a fall day.
