A new increase in the number of people infected daily with COVID-19 in Belgium is a cause for concern. An average of 636.3 people per day tested positive during the past week. Belgium’s reproduction number is currently 1.36. The spike in infections comes against the background of the reopening of schools and the influx of people returning from trips to countries and regions coded red for COVID-19. This is not yet the time to soften measures, like wearing masks and social distancing. Below picture shows the situation downtown Ghent yesterday afternoon. I must say that I’ve got mixed feelings about the self-discipline people are displaying… A lot of people are not covering their face correctly and the required one and a half meters social distancing seems to be challenging – Graslei, Ghent, Belgium.
