There are many sources where owners can take inspiration from in naming their pets. Everyday experiences and the people you meet are a great resource. The names of your favorite celebrities, musicians, and friends (even enemies!) can also be used. Even hobbies, aspects of your lifestyle, and the words you encounter while busying yourself with work make naming pets more fun, memorable, and interesting. There isn’t really anything difficult to it. All it takes is some amount of imagination and creativity to come up with a name as unique and amusing as your pet.
Like many animals, chinchillas have a diverse set of personalities. Generally they are curious, playful, and active creatures often seen scurrying, burrowing, and nibbling. In the wild, they are observed leaping from rock to rock, scampering about and constantly scavenging in search of food or objects they can play with. Even when domesticated, they still have brought these natural characteristics with them, causing a lot of movement and sound while in the cage. Knowing this general feature is a good start in naming your pet chinchilla. Try looking into words and synonyms that are similar to these natural acts. You can get a million ideas just by looking at these words alone: jumping, leaping, tumbling, scavenging, scurrying, scampering, climbing, digging, burrowing, and playing. Then, ask yourself, what or who do they remind me of? How can I play around with these words? What name can I use often that I won’t tire of it? Many chinchilla names are sure to come out of this.
When going out shopping for the perfect chinchilla, these adorable creatures will show how they are even while still in their cages in the pet shop or at a breeder’s. They are stubborn in such a way that they won’t really change by the time you bring them home. Of course, since they’d be in a new environment, they may be less active and inquisitive as they try to get used to their surroundings. But after a couple of days, they return to how they were the first time you saw them at the pet store. You can get tons of ideas already just by window shopping. For the active ones, you can draw inspiration on how they leap, eat, and interact with other chinchillas in the cage. There are the more timid ones that can just stay quiet in a corner, sleeping or sitting still. The names you can come up with just by observing their behaviors while at the pet shop or at a breeder’s makes for an even more fun shopping experience.
Some owners take their time in naming their pet chinchillas, bringing back their pets home first and seeing how they can be with them around. How they are during feeding time, what they prefer to eat or nibble on, how they are when training them for tricks, what they like to do when left alone in the cage, as well as the usual noise they make is filled with ideas for chinchilla names. Often, how they interact with their owners can spark a word or a name that makes them all the more endearing.
Owners who are at a loss as to what to call their pet chinchillas don’t need to rack their brains out for the perfect name. It’s as simple as observing their pet, taking note of their many personalities and behaviors. Part of the process is about asking questions: why, what, how, who. Most times, the answers yield really great and unique names.
