You can learn how to increase your creativity through movement, how to use dancing with intention to achieve your creative goals and enjoy the empowering benefits of bringing movement back into your life. These are simple and easy steps to a more creative journey.
There is a tremendous amount of stagnation that has been created over the past century due to technology. We sit in front of a computer playing on Facebook, Tweeting, MySpace, or YouTube watching videos, and we aren’t even talking about the hours we spend in front of the television.
Your body is not the only thing that becomes stagnant it is also your mind. Bringing movement back into your life not only will be healthier for your body but will do wonders for your creative spirit.
Benefits of movement increases:
- Circulation
- Health
- Productivity
- Clarity
- Passion for life
- Creativity
Dancing with intention is a fun and therapeutic way to bring movement back into your life and increasing your creativity.
Examples of setting an intention:
- Shaking out all of the negativity that is stored in your body and then bringing in health and abundance.
- Awakening to your creativity and bringing opportunities for creating into your life.
- Being open to what you need to see right now in your life to move forward.
- Any goal you wish to achieve.
It is best to choose from three pieces of music that combined are about fifteen minutes up to many pieces lasting about an hour. When choosing your music you want to think about what you want to achieve or your intention for your dance. That will determine if there is a theme to the songs or just a lot of earthy music such as “Feet in the Soil” by James Asher.
In most cases you want to start with a medium beat song, not too fast and not too slow. The next piece, or pieces, needs to be fast paced music and then moving into slower music as you finish your dance. In the beginning, if you aren’t used to doing a lot of movement, you may want to start with just two or three songs. You may also wish to set up slow meditative music to play when you are finished dancing.
As you dance the most important part is movement. Move as little or as much as you feel comfortable. Think about your intention as you begin to move but allow your thoughts to drop away and be open to receiving any messages that may come through. You may wish to shake out of your body any negative or stuck places you are feeling in the beginning of the dance. You may then choose to consciously dance in those things that you want to come into your life.
Only do as much movement as you are able. Never push yourself to the point of pain.
When the music is finished, staying in a slightly meditative state from dancing, sit down and journal any thoughts or visions that came in for you. If you didn’t notice any messages you can ask questions, in your journal, that can lead to insights that are helpful to your goals.
Creating a Mandala for your dancing journey you will need:
- Large paper with a large circle traced onto it
- Crayons
- Markers
- Colored Pens
- Colored Pencils
- Any other drawing materials you wish to use to create your mandala
Drawing a mandala, after you dance with intention, can help bring in further insights. Staying in a slightly meditative state from the dance, draw and color any forms, lines and symbols that come up for you. It is best not to censor your drawing. Whatever images show themselves draw them inside and/or outside the circle. You do not have to be an artist to create a personal mandala.
Have fun discovering how your creativity can blossom through setting your intention, movement and dance.
