Do you see yourself as creative or talented; or both creative and talented? Have you ever thought about whether or not there’s a difference between being creative and talented? Is Michael Jordan creative or talented; or creative and talented? Which came first the chicken or the egg?
Okay, okay, okay, enough with the questions. The answer is yes. Yes, there’s a difference between being creative and talented. But the truth is everyone has the capacity to be both.
Talent is defined as the potential or factual ability to perform a skill better than most people; while being creative is defined as making or bringing into existence something new.
All people have the capacity to be both talented and creative, but most people believe that they are neither. We’ve all become so conditioned to only look at creativity and talent in connection with the arts that we’re dismissing a wide swatch of very creative and talented people. Every human on the face of the earth no less! Think about it, isn’t there some skill that you do better than most people? And come on, I just know that you’ve brought at least one or two ideas into existence over your life time.
The purpose of this article is to get you to stop thinking so small. Small thinking is a dreadful way to live. Please stop. I’d like for you to widen you notion of who can be creative and talented. Trust me, you are both talented and creative.
Of course there are those persons who take their talent and creativity to a level that sets them apart in a significant way. Just look at Michael Jordan who’s both talented and creative. But even Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team! Do you get where I’m going here?
The point is Michael Jordan wasn’t always as talented or creative as we came to know him, but he did possess a desire to develop himself to the greatest ability he could imagine. Ah, desire & imagination, two of the most delicious words in the English language. Part of the magic beneath creativity and talent are desire and imagination. It’s this tag team duo that will send you down the path of no return in pursuit of nurturing your creative and talent wellspring.
Remember that capacity lies within us all. You too can achieve high levels of greatness and achievement through honestly developing your talents and creativity. From there, as they say, the sky is the limit; and if you don’t believe me, than just look at Michael Jordan!
