What it is?
The United Nation Women’s (UN Women) 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
The global theme for this year is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”. UN WOMEN LINK about the campaign
To support this cause, WOW-SL have partnered up with GP Gallery to sponsor a photo contest. Second Life photo enthusiasts, bloggers or sim explorers are welcome to visit ARTSVILLE (in orange hues) and be part of the campaign by taking photos and sharing their experiences from the sim. In this way we can raise awareness of this meaningful cause by coloring our SL and Flickr worlds – ORANGE in 16 days.
Why have this campaign in SL – a virtual world?
Let’s face it! Gender-based abuse also exists virtually, it may be in an unintentional or intentional form. The extent of this violence may not be physical but will always result to short-term or long-term emotional trauma and anxiety to the member victims resulting to a violation of the Community of Standards (not TOS) of SL. Raising awareness in our SL community will give us reminders that one cannot just violate and do things according to their pleasure in-world with the expense of another person/ persons. It is time to at least put light into this issue by supporting us.
Prizes:
The rules of the contest are noted below. The competition will be judged by 4 representatives from the Sponsors. Of all submissions, 18 finalists will be selected to present their works at GP Gallery. The top 3 winners will be announced during the Campaign’s closing event at GP Gallery on 20 December 2022 @ 11:30 AM SLT.
The prizes for the top 3 finalists are as follows:
1st Prize: 5,000L
2nd Prize: 3,000L
3rd Prize: 2,000L
Rules for the contest:
1. Please be creative with your submissions. Preference will be given to creative out of the box approaches to the theme’s essence. All entries must have a touch of the color ORANGE.
2. Photos can be taken anywhere in SL but must adhere to the theme of ‘Unite’ and ‘Violence against Women’.
3. Photos will be judged on composition, style, creativity and general appeal.
4. Post-photo editing is allowed for touch ups only – no significant work that changes.
5. Submissions MUST include "#orangetheworld2022 and Your Name".
6. Multiple entries are allowed but restricted to TWO entries per person.
7. Submissions to be added to the Flickr group set up specifically for this contest: www.flickr.com/groups/colortheworldorange/
8. Entries open until 12 PM SLT of the 17th of December 2022.
Judging:
– Top 18 to be chosen by a representative each from the Sponsors of the Event: WOW-SL, Artsville / Art Korner Blog SL, Jackson Redstar Videography and GP Gallery.
– Final 3 will be selected by the same panel of 4 judges.
– All decisions are final.
– Finalists will be invited to display their work at the GP Gallery, as well as to parade their creation at the awarding event on the 14th of December 2021 @ 11:30 AM SLT.
– Finalists do NOT have to be present at the awarding event to win as it is an international effort.
